November marks the tenth anniversary of the signing of the Peace Agreement between the Colombian government and the FARC-EP, and in Bogotá, the Acordemos Foundation, with support from the Norwegian Embassy through the UNDP and the Alfredo Vázquez Carrizosa Human Rights Institute at Javeriana University, brought together community leaders, the Ombudsman, the UN Verification Mission, and other stakeholders to take stock of what remains to be done. A “living agreement despite death,” as retired General Óscar Naranjo put it, because in ten years, 500 signatories to the peace agreement have been murdered, and yet the vast majority continue to stand for peace. The recent collapse of the hospital in Quibdó was not caused by the earthquake either, but by years of neglected infrastructure, as Leyner Palacios pointed out. And as a female leader from Chaparral (Tolima) urged, “the commemoration of these ten years cannot be limited to mere speeches.”
