Lessons-learned repository

Acordemos’ work is based on a program of lessons learned from the negotiation process between the Colombian government and the FARC-EP (2010-2016), which constitutes the technical support for the advisory and training processes carried out by the organization at the international and national levels. We understand this initiative as a concrete way to give back to the world all the support Colombia has received in terms of peace.

What do we understand by lessons learned?

It is the set of knowledge acquired and systematized from the practical experience derived from negotiation processes of armed conflicts -successful and unsuccessful- and that can be related to the different moments of a negotiation, its vision, design, structure or the implementation of agreements, the topics of the agenda, the role of third parties, the challenges, and of course the innovations and learning derived from such experience.

What is the Program?

It is the exercise of consolidating and ordering the concepts, techniques and methodologies that allow to identify, validate, analyze, classify, transfer and share the lessons learned from a negotiation process to put an end to an armed conflict.

For Fundación Acordemos this Lessons Learned repository is related to the framework of the peace process developed between the Government of Colombia and the FARC-EP between 2010-2018 (Havana peace process), taking into account the three phases foreseen (exploratory phase – public phase and implementation), the two negotiating delegations (both as a team and as individuals), the national context, the participation of international actors, among others. To which we add its articulation to a comparative perspective based on the lessons studied and that had an impact on this negotiation.
